The incident happened on Sunday, Feb. 4 just before 12:45 a.m. in the area of Harriman Road in Irvington, the Irvington Police Department announced.
After authorities were alerted of the incident, patrol officers responded to the location of the robbery and began searching for the suspect while also notifying surrounding police departments.
According to police, the robbery and attempted carjacking were a targeted and isolated incident and did not appear to pose a threat to the rest of the community. The incident is now under investigation by detectives who are working to apprehend those involved.
In an announcement, Irvington Police said that they realize such incidents can be a cause of concern for residents and said they would be increasing patrols in the affected area, as well as increasing their presence across the village.
The department also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity by calling the department at 914-591-8080.
"We want to express our desire to partner with the members of the community to strengthen our ability to combat criminal activity. If anything is suspicious or out of the ordinary, give us a call," the department said.
